Chris' Musical Path
It all kicked off in 2014 with a Telecaster and a dusty road ahead. The gear was there, but the soul had to be earned; by 2016, I was deep in the woodshed with Texas Blues Alley and BGU. That heavy Texas grit spoke to me, and stepping under the lights for my 2017 debut was a trial by fire I'll never forget. Now, I keep grinding, fueled by the ghosts of the greats and the fire of Griff Hamlin, Anthony Stauffer and Tommy Katona. I owe a lot to Chris for sparking this fire and to Dan and Chris for holding the line. They provide the heartbeat that lets me howl on the strings, catching every stumble and turning it into smoke. Sharing this stage is a damn fine privilege.
My story is a classic tale of a musical "late bloomer" who found his groove. At 50 I traded kitchen remodeling labor for my first drum kit. I sharpened my skills through the School of Rock's adult program and spent a decade navigating the local band scene (including the rite of passage being fired from my own band). After years of searching, I found my musical "home" and a deep creative bond with my bandmates, Tony and Chris.
I cut my teeth on the jagged edges of classic rock and metal guitar. But everything shifted during one relentless Battle of the Bands—a collision of sound that drove me to trade six strings for the heavy throb of four. Inspired by the deep-well soul of Duck Dunn and Billy Cox, I moved into the cellar to find the heart of the blues. Now, anchored with Dan, I lay the foundation for Tony’s fire. We keep it in the pocket.
